Mildred "Midge" Mayer

Mildred “Midge” J. Mayer, 93 of Onalaska, WI passed away Monday, February 19, 2018 peacefully in her home. She was born September 12, 1924 in Oconto Falls, WI, the daughter of the late Roy Kain and May (Gonion) Kain. She graduated from Appleton High on June 4, 1942.

Midge married Reuben P. Mayer (who she met in Appleton, WI) on January 19, 1946 in Aurora, IL. She spent 58 years in Aurora as a homemaker raising her family. A year after the death of her husband, she moved to Onalaska, WI to be near her daughter and son-in-law, where she has lived the last 14 years.

Midge was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Aurora and Young at Heart at St. Paul’s. In later years she was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Onalaska. Midge lived in a senior apartment house (Stonefield Manor) in Onalaska. There she took care of the kitchen, set up the Monday morning coffee hour, helped decorate for the different seasons, and in the early years delivered the morning paper.

Midge is survived by her three children; Ron (Janice) Mayer of Pahrump, NV; Jane (Steven) Ruppel of Onalaska, WI and James (Lori) Mayer of Lafayette, CO; four grandchildren, Dawn (Steven) McLaughlin, Heather (Dave) Morrison, Tim Christ and Jacob Mayer; five great-grandchildren, Parker McLaughlin, Trista McLaughlin, Cheyenne Christ, Dorothy Morrison and Paul Morrison. In addition to her husband, Reuben she was preceded in death by her parents, 12 brothers and 2 sisters.

A prayer memorial will be held at Stonefield Manor in Onalaska at a time and date to be decided. A graveside service will be held at a later date in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Aurora, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorials be made to Gundersen Hospice Program, C/O Gundersen Medical Foundation, 1836 South Ave, La Crosse, WI 54601.
