Michael Joseph Moore

October 18, 1941 — May 28, 2017

Michael Joseph Moore, 75, of Hokah, died on Sunday, May 28, 2017. He was born October 18, 1941, in La Crescent, Minn., to Aloysius and Deborah (Naughton) Moore.

Mike was grateful for and proud of every moment and day of his life from his youth in La Crescent to his time in Hokah and everything in between. He showed us how to live and love life and was deeply committed to his faith, family, friends and community. He was a proud graduate of Crucifixion School in La Crescent, Aquinas High School in La Crosse, and was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce focusing on intelligence. Mike had a love for adventure and found a fitting career driving tour bus and entertaining people on long trips all around the country. He also found time to build and manage the Thunderbird Mobile Home Park, work on his farm, serve the American Legion Post 498 in Hokah, and help out where needed at the Sidewalk Café, Grocery Store, Hokah Hardware and deliver Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed an active life full of travel, skiing, SCUBA diving, parasailing, hang gliding, boating, flying airplanes, NASCAR races, volunteering, gardening, solving crossword and Sudoku puzzles, and lighting up the lives of his granddaughters. Any bumps in the road were handled with patience, bravery, and dignity.

He was a very kind, helpful and generous soul and brought joy to everyone he met. He lived every day believing there are no strangers in this world, only friends you haven’t met, yet. He touched lives in La Crescent and Hokah as well as across the country from Arizona to Alaska and across the world from here to Ireland to Germany. He will be missed by all who knew him and wants us all to Keep Smilin’.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Aloysius and Deborah Moore, his brothers Aloysius Jr., Thomas and James Moore; his sister Colleen Collins; his mother and father-in-law Bernadette and Raymond Bissen; brothers-in-law Larry Collins, Sam Murray, and Jeff Stalsberg; and niece Eileen Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol (Bissen) Moore; daughter, Cindy (Craig) Warner; granddaughters, Meredythe and Meghan; sister, Katy (Bob) Langen; sisters-in-law, Joanne Moore, Arlene Moore, Mary Joan Murray and Janice Stalsberg; brothers-in-law, David (Barb) Bissen and Don (Sandy) Bissen; beloved nieces and nephews, Mary, Laura, Kevin, Dan, Kathleen, Mary L., Susan, John, Nancy, Paul, Dan, Jennifer, Christopher, Larry, Bob, Karen, Cathy, Steve, Patti, Jeff, Angie, Chris, Samantha and Nicholas; many great-nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Sandee, Dave and Anthony.
