Michael J. Coulombe died peacefully on October 27, 2021, with his wife and daughter Becky by his side. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for several years and experienced a fatal fall on Monday Oct. 25, causing his death.
Mike is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Theresa, daughter Bridget (Leo), son Joe (Michele), and daughter Becky (Bill). Two beloved sons preceded him in death, Matt and Tom (Whitney) Coulombe. They are now reunited in heaven.
He is also survived by grandchildren: Alex (Jenna), Simon (Rachel), and Frances Moe, children of Becky and Bill Moe. Danny and Brian Van Beek, sons of Bridget Van Beek. Miles, Jeremy, and Trevor Coulombe, sons of Joe and Michele Coulombe. He is survived by his granddaughter Mara Coulombe who was the daughter of Tom and Whitney Coulombe. She was a dear presence in Mike’s life as she lived here in La Crosse and spent much treasured time at Mike and Theresa’s home.
Mike is also survived by his sisters Pat Thompson and Barb (Sam) Parent, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and dear friend Dennis McInerny (brother of Theresa).
Mike taught American Literature at UWL from 1969 until his retirement. He walked to work daily in all kinds of weather. He was fond of all his colleagues in the English department. Before that he taught high school in Melrose, Mn. for two years. Mike earned his undergraduate degree at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, and his master’s and PHD from Purdue University.
Mike was beloved by his entire family and will be sorely missed.
