Melvin E. ‘Skip’ Jacobson
Melvin E. ‘Skip’ Jacobson, 61, of La Crosse, was called home to rest on November 2, 2017 at the Hillview Health Care Center in La Crosse. He was born on January 10, 1956 in La Crosse to Melvin & Eileen (Schleifer) Jacobson.
Melvin got his nickname Skip from his godmother Eva Volk. She started calling him that when he skipped school and went to her house. The name stuck with him all of these years. He even used it as a pick- up line for the ladies. He would tell them, “ I bet you can find my name on every grocery store shelf there is. I’m smooth and creamy A.K.A. Skippy peanut butter. ” Skip was very proud to have earned his GED from WWTC. He worked at many jobs over the years. What he was most proud of was working at the Rubber Mills for 27 years. He was always one to help people that were broke down along- side the road. He was a people person. Almost every- where you went, no matter how many miles away, somebody would know Skip. He loved to dress up as Santa for his nieces and nephews. He would go to their homes to see if they had been good and to give them a popcorn ball. Even when the kids were old enough to know it was him, they still loved it. Skip was very proud of his boathouse in Dakota, Minnesota. He would let the neighborhood kids come fishing there. He loved to teach them how to fish and boy could he tell some great fish stories. He loved the outdoors and was always out working on his truck or motorcycle. He was always tinkering with something. His famous motto was “Duct tape can fix anything.” His favorite foods were cheese, sardines, ice cream and was known to eat an onion like an apple. He also loved his Sun-Drop pop. Skip would always say, “I’ve been every-where, man.”
He is survived by his brothers Arthur (Mary) Schleifer, Marvin (Debbie), Randy (Rose), Bob (Kate), sisters Connie Jacobson, Christy Jacobson and Carrie (Mike) Goyette, a son Anthony Ahrndt and his girlfriend Jerilyn, and a grand-daughter Sikoya. He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal and paternal grandparents along with many aunts and uncles.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hillview for the wonderful care they gave Skip and for making him part of their family.
