Maxine Shirley Ann Songer

March 24, 1933 — April 9, 2022

Maxine Shirley Ann Songer,

of La Crescent, Minn esota

Maxine passed away on Saturday April 9th, 2022. of natural causes. at 89 years old.

She was born in Black Hammer Township, Minnesota to parents Melvin and Johanna Olafson on March 24th in 1933.

She is the last of eight siblings to pass away and the youngest of them.  She lived most of her life on the Hokah ridge farm married to John Belmont Songer in 1951 for 59 years until  1967 when Maxine and John moved to La Crescent. They would enjoy their lives together over the next 40 years until John passed in 2010.  She continued to live in La Crescent until her passing.

Her main care in life was her family and she expressed her love by always providing for us.  She looked after our Dad like no other wife could.

We will forever be spoiled by her fantastic cooking ability, especially with her baking. She easily made the best apple pie in the Apple Capital of Minnesota.

Raised on the farm she never shied away from hard work. She never left that work ethic on the farm so in town she expected a new set of chores to be done with the same ardor. Now it was mowing grass and shoveling snow. It was really tough to match her standards for the appearance of the yard in summer and the swept sidewalks in winter.  Never mind the spotless windows she insisted on.  Like every 2 weeks. They were her window to the world as she spent most of her time in the home she loved. She was happiest being a mother, homemaker, and wife that ran the household. With all that said, her and Dad had fun too.  They loved bowling and were in leagues for years and have the trophies to show.  They had many friends through bowling.

Maxine is survived by Jeff {Kathy} of LaCrescent, Minn., Gary of Chaska, Minn., three grandchildren, Jessica {Josh}, Felicia {Micah} and Alexis; and great grandchildren, Victoria, Austin, Shelby and Remy.

She was preceded in death by parents Melvin and Johanna, John {husband} as well as seven siblings. Three brothers, Mervin, Norton,Vernel  and  four sisters,  Myrtle Onsgard, Pearl Sires Belinda Peterson, and Liela Rask and also her grandson Jason Lee Songer.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday April 19, 2022, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Caledonia, Minn.  Visitation will precede services at 10:00 AM. Pastor Steven Meyer will officiate. Interment will take place after services at Evergreen Cemetery and a luncheon will be served in the church dining hall.
