Matthew G. Bena

Matthew G. Bena, 56, of Westfield, Wi, passed away on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. He was born December 12, 1967, in La Crosse to Chuck and Therese (Duellman) Bena. Matt graduated from Westby High School and later from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.

Matt had served as a police officer for the city of New Lisbon for 9 years. In 2001, he became sergeant with the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in Mauston until his retirement in February of 2024.

On July 1, 2023, he married Michelle (Bateman) Bastien in Westfield.

In addition to his wife Michelle, Matt is survived by his daughter, Lauren Bena of Portage, WI; his parents, Chuck and Therese Bena of Onalaska; sister-in-law, Linda Bena of Onalaska; nephew, Brock Bena of Onalaska; stepdaughters, Gianna and Angie Bastien both of Westfield; mother-in-law, Mary Lakinger of Westfield and his favorite animales, Lorenzo, Poppy and Tux.

Matt was preceded in death by his two brothers, Phillip and Timothy Bena and his niece, Audra Bena.

In following Matt’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
