Mary A. Thiele

Mary Anita Thiele, 82, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024, surrounded by her family at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. She resided at Creamery Creek Senior Living in Stoddard, WI. She was born November 22, 1941, in Prairie du Chien, WI to clarence and Helen (Crane) Nugent. She met the love of her life Dennis Thiele in 1967 and married on March 16, 1968. She is survived by three daughters, Betsy (Josh) Knutson of Genoa, Susan (Donald) Krzewinski of Stoddard, and Katie (Matt) Wallace of Pewaukee. She had seven grandchildren who adored their Nana and enjoyed spending time with her. Kaden and Braxton Knutson, Jacob and Jenna Krzewinski, Olivia, Tyler, and Gavin Wallace; sister Colleen Nugent of La Crosse; brothers, Dean (Mary) Nugent of Holmen, Owen (Mary) Nugent of Dubuque, IA; brother-in-law, Robert Benish of La Crosse, along with many nieces and nephews.

Before having children, Mary worked at First National Bank for 10 years. Once Dennis and Mary had children, Mary decided to stay home and raise her three daughters. Mary and her three daughters were best friends. Her love for daughters was immeasurable. She made sure her girls knew how much she loved them daily. Her daughters will miss her daily phone calls most of all. Mary was one of the best. Truly somebody special with a heart of gold. To know and love her was a gift. She loved unconditionally and without judgement. Nobody ever remained a stranger for long after meeting her. She could light up a room from the minute she walked in. Mary’s hobbies included crocheting, playing cards, crafting, shopping, playing online games, and Wii bowling. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her husband Dennis Thiele; her parents; brothers, Clair, Bernard, and Larry Nugent; sister, Phyllis Benish; sister and brother-in-law Lois and Laddie Flynn; sister-in-law, June (Bernard) Nugent; parents-in-law, Alvin and Dorothy (Witt) Thiele and many other family members.

In accordance with Mary’s wishes, her body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 9th at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave S, La Crosse. A visitation will be on Saturday November 9th from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Msgr. Richard Gilles will officiate. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Mausoleum at the Catholic Cemetery, 519 Losey Blvd S, La Crosse.
