Mary C. Nestingen

December 17, 1934 — October 12, 2018

Mary Holinka Nestingen passed away on Friday, October 12, 2018 surrounded by her family. She was born in La Crosse, WI on December 17, 1934 to Anton “Chops” and Clara (Schmitt) Kreutz. She was a lifelong member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church. She graduated from Aquinas High School in 1952. On September 4, 1954 she married Wally Holinka at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1989. On March 20, 1992 she married Bob Nestingen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He preceded here in death on June 12, 2017. She always said that she was lucky to fall in love twice and marry two wonderful men.

Mary loved her years as a seasonal camper on Goose Island, her winters at South Padre Island, TX and her swim friends she met at the “Y”. She worked for La Crosse County in the Register of Deeds office for 27 years, serving as Register of Deeds the last four years. She was a member of the Wisconsin Assn. of County Officers and served on the Board of Directors for Firefighters Credit Union for nine years.

She is survived by her son Steve (Angie) Holinka, two daughters Nancy (Patrick) Servais and Jill (Terry) Wolf, one step-daughter Nancy (Steve) Leer, one step-son Monte (Greta) Nestingen, six grandchildren Kate (Kat Wanner) Holinka, Tony (Kristy) Holinka, Rachel (Nic) Meyer, Kevin Servais, Sara (Patrick) Bette and Megan (Edie) Tschumper, six step-grandchildren Heather Leer, Michelle Leer, Barrett (Zhanna) Leer, Stacey (Eric) Allen, Nicole (Ben) Gald and Monica Haney, four great-grandchildren Henry Holinka, Jon Wanner-Holinka, Nick Wanner-Holinka, Taryn Wanner-Holinka and Lucas Meyer, fourteen step great-grandchildren Destin Wisland, Kirra Wisland, Riley Roehl, Allison Roehl, Hunter Gald, Sytara Gald, Maverick Deaver, Devyn Haney, Daylan Haney, Jayda Haney, Eli Allen, Jocey Allen, John Leer and Elijah Leer. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter Joan Marie Holinka and a step great- grandchild Keith Deaver. Mary would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Adam Skemp, her caring family and her great neighbors Rich and Gail Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Rev. Rick Roberts will officiate. Burial will follow in the Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 AM until the time of service. Following the burial a lunch will be served at Timmer’s Ten Mile Pub, W4516 Eddie Ave. & Hwy 14, La Crosse. Memorials may be directed to Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, La Crosse Chapel is assisting the family.
