Mary Ellen (Lohmann) Lee

LA CROSSE – Mary Ellen (Lohmann) Lee, 76, of La Crosse, died peacefully on Jan. 6, 2022, at Brookestone Village Care Center in Omaha, NE.

Mary Ellen was born on January 11, 1945, and raised in La Crosse, WI. She graduated high school from Villa Maria Academy in Frontenac, Minn., then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master of Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She was a dedicated special education teacher, beloved by staff and students, for 35 years before retiring with the Holmen School District. She also lived in Roseville, CA, and Lacey, WA, before returning to La Crosse in 1989 with her twin sons where they moved into the home she grew up in, and took great pride in caring for.

Mary Ellen enjoyed traveling with her lifelong friends, attending church, volunteering, participating in book club, and spending time with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Robert and Irene Lohmann, and sister Claire Jandt, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Jason Lee. She is survived by her two sons Mark (Christine) Lee of Omaha, NE, and Matthew (Kate) Lee of Buckley, WA, five grandchildren; Wyatt, Margeaux, Anderson, Vanessa, Vivienne, and brother-in-law Dennis Jandt.

Mary Ellen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, friend, and neighbor, and will be missed dearly by all who knew her. We lost you much too soon, but will be forever grateful for the time we had with you, and all of the love, teachings, and traditions of family you created. “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” A.A. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Roncalli Newman Catholic Parish, 1732 State St, La Crosse, WI. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. A burial will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in La Crosse. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund, curealz.org.
