Marvin J. Humfeld

July 13, 1953 — June 30, 2021

Marvin J. Humfeld, 67, of La Crosse, lost his two year battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving partner and family members on Wednesday, June 30, 2021. He was born on July 13, 1953, in La Crosse. He attended Onalaska High School graduating in 1971. He then completed Army basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey followed by National Guard Service. He returned to the area and started working for Strupp Trucking, Inc. That was in 1972 and he continued to work for them until he was no longer able. He had a special relationship with Bill Strupp and later with the Strupp sons. He was proud of his strong work ethic and his dedication to work.

Marv grew up on the family farm and often shared fond memories of milking cows, planting crops, making hay, and harvesting corn. He learned how to deftly maneuver farm machinery of all kinds and then went on to maneuver large trucks and trailers.

Marv had a very unique sense of humor and could make people laugh with a quizzical facial expression when something didn’t make sense to him. He could be irreverent, crusty, and funny all at the same time. No one ever had to guess where they stood with him. He loved little kids and jokingly said, “The only problem with little kids is that they turn into teenagers” and then he would laugh.

Marv is survived by his life partner and soul mate, Linda Johnson; daughters, Amie (Lowell) Heckman and Billie Jo (Gary) Caulum; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild; three sisters, Marlene (Jim) Bannen, Mary Jo (Ray) Easterday, Eileen (Ray) Malin, all of La Crosse and two brothers, Garry Humfeld of Onalaska and Patrick (Lisa) Humfeld of Trempealeau; sister-in-law, Dorothy Humfeld of Hokah; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ona; and brother, Michael. He is also survived by one son, Jeremy and an adopted daughter, Heather, from a former marriage.

The family would like to express their thanks to the Mayo Cancer Center doctors and staff and the Mayo Hospice staff.

In accordance with Marv’s wishes, a small memorial gathering will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse, WI 54601.
