Martha Jane Morton

Martha Jane (Bell) Morton, 94, of La Crosse passed away Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017 in La Crosse, WI. She was born June 17, 1923 in Richmond, IN, to Orbra M. and Nellie F (Maines) Bell. She proudly received her GED in 1967 from Logan High School in La Crosse, WI. She married Robert K. Morton on August 6, 1940.

Martha was a grocery clerk during WWII and, afterwards, worked as a clerk, cook, and secretary. She retired in 1987.

Martha was an avid Christian and throughout her life was a choir member, singing alto at many churches. She loved music, sports, church, ceramics, dogs and sold Avon & Tiara Ware.

Martha is survived by her children, Paul (Carolyn) Morton of Pensacola, FL., Shirley (Mike) Brooks of Battle Creek, MI., Pastor Linda Morton of Jacksonville, FL., Patricia Morton of La Crosse, WI., Elinor Chace of Jacksonville, FL., Michael (Marilyn) Morton of Clear Lake, IA., and Pastor Rob (Cathe) Morton of Lithonia, GA. She is further survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister Betty Armstrong, brother Robert Bell; infant children Frances and Mark; grandson Reggie Morton; great-grandchild Rachel Cheyenne; and son-in-law, Charles Chace.

Memorials may be made to Martha J Morton Memorial Fund at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home. Services were held at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse.
