Marlene K. Brewster

Marlene Katherine Brewster, 92, of La Crescent, MN passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2024 at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse. Marlene was born on October 18, 1931 in Rich Hill, MO. She later moved to Dakota, MN and lived with her mother Margaret and stepfather Richard Kabat. Marlene graduated from Winona High School in 1949. While working as a waitress for her parents at their Paradise Truck Stop in Dakota she met a truckdriver, Fletcher Brewster. She married Fletcher on April 15, 1950 and they resided on Larch Ave. in La Crescent, MN. After Fletcher retired from driving, Marlene and Fletcher owned and operated Brewster’s Roost Tavern from 1976-1985. Fletcher preceded her in death in 2001 after 51 years of marriage. 

Marlene had a very strong faith in God. She loved people too and enjoyed many lasting friendships. She was a charter member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in La Crescent, a member of American Legion Post 595 Auxiliary in La Crescent and the Faithfully Fit Exercise Class also in La Crescent. 

Marlene is survived by her three children: Michael Brewster of La Crescent, MN, Daniel (Susan) Brewster of Faribault, MN and Margaret (Stephen) Vidaurri of Saline, MI. Grandchildren: Tari (Darwin) Gullickson, Nicole (Michael) Mades, Daniel (Carolyn) Brewster, Lydia Brewster, Jackson (Katherine) Vidaurri, Quinton Vidaurri and Michael Brewster, along with five great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband Fletcher, she was preceded in death by a great grandson Keaton Michael Bendel.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 21 North Hill Street, La Crescent, MN. Pastor Anna Sorenson will officiate. Burial will follow in Prince of Peace Cemetery in La Crescent. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10 AM until the time of service.
