Mark "Sugar" Steidl

Mark “Sugar” Steidl, 66 of La Crosse, WI passed away on April 25th, 2024, at Lakeview Health Center. Mark was born on August 19th, 1957, to Joseph and Irene “Peachie” Steidl. He graduated from Aquinas High School and married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie LaFleur, on October 14th, 1978.

Mark worked at Wettstein’s in downtown LaCrosse for many years, then as a salesman at Click Distributing, and he was known to bartend at many La Crosse taverns like Sloopy’s Alma Mater, Shimshak’s, and Bluffside Tavern.

He was heavily involved in Oktoberfest, tavern softball leagues, Holy Trinity Men’s Club, and the Trinity Singers at Holy Trinity Church. He loved playing cards, singing, music, softball, and telling inappropriate jokes at appropriate times.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his daughters, Katie (Matt) Tredinnick and Megan (Kevin Schwartzenberg) Steidl; grandchildren, Tate and Mallory Tredinnick. He is also survived by his siblings, Judy (Steve) Fuchsteiner; Tom (Jane) Steidl; Cathy (Greg) Engen; brother-in-law Jeff “Shifty” Schaller. He is also survived by many cousins, in-laws, nieces, and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Irene Steidl; his brother Steve Steidl; and his sister JoAnn (Steidl) Schaller.

The family would like to sincerely thank all of the staff at Lakeview Health Center for their wonderful care and support.

A memorial prayer service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 3rd at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the funeral home from 4-7 P.M. and again on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the services.
