Mark J. Grattan

Mark James Grattan, 49, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at his home in La Crescent, MN. He was born November 23, 1973, in La Crosse, WI to Carol L. (Atkinson) and John Y. Grattan Sr.  He graduated from La Crescent High School in 1992 and continued working for the family business – “Grattan & Sons Construction”.  Thereafter, he worked for Niebeling Landscaping, Interstate Roofing, and drove semi-truck until he became a proud union member of the local Laborer’s #140.

Mark was passionate about riding his Harley motorcycle, following the NHRA, hunting deer, fishing on the Mississippi River and Lake Michigan, driving his 1965 Cadillac, and wrenching on any kind of motor. He spent his weekends, first and foremost with his son, Jac whom he affectionately called, “My Boy”. They could be found “helping anyone on a handshake”, riding their 4-wheelers, snowmobiles, or dirt bikes, attending drag races, vacationing together, or just spending time with family and friends.

Mark leaves behind his loving son, Jac; mom Carol; sisters, Mary (Mike Wikstrom) and Jane (Brandon) Mathison; brothers, John (Kay Pedretti) Grattan Jr. and Charles (Tara) Grattan; former wife Nicole Jenkins; many nephews and nieces, John Y. III (Bre), Sarah (Alfonzso), Mariya (Quinn), Abby (Matt), Brandon, Aaron, Ellie, Dusty, Anthony, Kinlee and many friends who have become family. He was preceded in death by his dad, John Y. Grattan Sr. sister-in-law Kathleen (Geilow) Grattan and nephew, Matthew Philip Grattan Pedretti.

Please join Mark’s family for a celebration of life from 3-7pm on Saturday, January 7 ^th at the La Crescent Event Center, 595 Veterans Pkwy, La Crescent, MN. There will be a prayer service and memorials at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Mark’s memory.
