Marion Marilyn Jackson

March 3, 1930 — August 4, 2020

Marion Marilyn Rose Jackson, age 90, of La Crescent, MN passed away peacefully on August 4, 2020 at the Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, WI.  Marion was born on March 3, 1930, in Winona, MN to Oscar Roland Rose and Blanche Lillian Ruhnke Rose.  She was the firstborn of nine children.  She married Harold Soren Jackson on September 27, 1949 in Preston, MN.  The two went on to raise five children in La Crescent, MN.

Marion graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1947 and earned her bachelor’s degree from Winona State University.  She went on to teach English and social studies at Montgomery High School, Cochrane-Fountain City High School and Longfellow Junior High in La Crosse, WI.   Following her teaching career, she worked in a variety of positions that utilized her strong leadership skills.

Marion enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, cooking, and hosting family get-togethers. She was an avid reader who continued to expand her knowledge of the world and the people around her late into her life.  She was an advocate for the arts, who loved going to plays and musical events. Marion was a devoted mother and wife who cherished all the opportunities to be present with family members during holidays, school activities, and special events.  She truly valued her fellowship with many close neighbors and friends and often expressed the importance of what these friendships meant to her. Marion was a devout Catholic and has been a member of the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent, MN since 1963.  She will be remembered for her friendliness, compassion, wisdom, and willingness to help others.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her parents, Oscar and Blanche (Ruhnke) Rose; her sisters, Betty Brose and Rita Rose; and her brother, Frederick Rose.  She is survived by her daughters, Susan Kissinger and Mary Ann Jackson; sons, David (Phyllis) Jackson, Donald (Cheryl) Jackson, and Frederick Jackson; grandchildren, Kerri, Nick, Katie, Marshall, Hannah, Sarah, and great-grandson, Xavier, as well as her brothers, Edward Rose, Bill (Gloria) Rose and John (Nancy) Rose; and her sisters, Anna (Bernard) Appel and Patty (Ron) Donkers.

Due to Covid-19, a graveside service will be held at a later date. Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crescent will be assisting the family with arrangements. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and staff at Gundersen Hospital for their professional and compassionate care.
