Marion E. Heichel was born to Swedish immigrants on their White Bear Lake, MN, farm. She lived beyond 100 years of age and passed away peacefully on September 10th, 2023.
During the period when she worked at 3M, St. Paul, she met Alfred Heichel and they married in 1948. Marion and Al were blessed with five children. His career in agriculture education found them residing in Chisago City and Montevideo, MN; Whitehall and Fountain City, WI. Marion was active in the church in each of these communities.
Regarded as a full-time mom, her children were the center of her life. Marion looked forward to family trips and hosting holiday gatherings. She loved animals and gardening. However, baking was her favorite pastime. Marion’s special ingredient was “sweetness”. Somehow, we know there is extra apple crisp in heaven!
Marion is survived by her children: Shirley (Larry) Imber of Orinda, CA, Greg Heichel of Fountain City, WI, Jelene Heichel of Cedar Park, TX, Galen (Kathy) Heichel of Dakota, MN and Becky (Steve) Vestal of Ft. Wayne, IN; 6 grandchildren: Sonya, Eva, Tadd, Andy, Emily and Kasey; 6 great-grandchildren: Marlie, Hendricks, Cullen, Charlie, Bohman and Frannie; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Tekla Axelson; husband, Alfred in 1994; sisters: Della Schon, Jocelyn Hauble; and brother: Clifford Axelson.
The entire Heichel family thanks La Crescent Health Services for their kindness during her brief stay. Mayo-La Crosse Hospital and Hospice were excellent in providing medical and emotional support.
Schumacher-Kish are to be commended for guiding us with care through this time of loss. Interment is at Pleasant Prairie cemetery in Osceola, Wisconsin.
