Marilyn A. (Marketty) Houle

Marilyn A. (Marketty) Houle, 86 of La Crosse, WI passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Eagle Crest South in La Crosse. She was born in Ishpeming (Marquette County) Michigan on November 6, 1937, to Phillip and Lorraine (Nault) Marketty.

Marilyn attended St. Paul’s Catholic Schools and graduated from St. Paul’s Catholic High School in Negaunee, MI. On July 5, 1958, she married Michael Houle at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Negaunee, and he preceded her in death on January 21, 2005.

While raising her two sons, Mark and Chris, she went back to school and earned her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1978. She then taught in the La Crosse School District, English as a second language in Columbus, Ohio and retired from Crucifixion Catholic School in La Crescent, MN where she taught second grade.

Marilyn enjoyed traveling, socializing and visiting with people. She loved raising her two sons and was a wonderful mom.

Marilyn is survived by two sons, Mark Houle of Grand Junction, CO and Chris (Laurie) Houle of Bangor, WI; a sister, Judy (Keith) De Fant of Negaunee, MI along with her nephews. In addition to her husband, Michael, she was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, John Anderton.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 17th from 3-6 p.m. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20th at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Negaunee, MI with Father Larry Van Damme officiating. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will take place in Negaunee Cemetery, Negaunee, MI.
