Margaret “Maggie” Loretta Zumach, 86 of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Brookdale Assisted Living.
She was born one of thirteen children to Hubert and Albina (Huinker) Schneberger on October 17, 1937, in Festina, IA. Maggie graduated from Calmar High School in Calmar, IA in 1955 and later that year she started working for Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse as a data processor, retiring after 43 years.
On May 2, 1964, she married Milo W. Zumach and he preceded her in death in 1990.
As an adult, Maggie enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling. She continued bowling into her 80s. Together, Maggie and Milo golfed many of the regional courses. She enjoyed her time spent on her many traveling trips with family and friends, especially her blue-hair trips to many baseball parks. She didn’t mind getting her hands dirty doing yard work or working in her garden.
Maggie is survived by a son, David (Ann) Zumach; a daughter, Trish (Ken) Baker; grandchildren, Kristin (Travis Haugh) Zumach, Sarah (Ryan Miles) Zumach, Sydney (fiancé, Joshua Sweeney) Baker and Kendall Baker; brothers, Gerald of Venice, FL and Duane of Twin Falls, ID; sister, Lois Schneberger of Tempe, AZ; sisters-in-law, Ethel Mae Schneberger of New Hampton, IA, Marcie Schneberger of Fort Atkinson, IA and Wilma Ambuehl of La Crescent, MN.
In addition to her husband Milo, she was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth, Robert, James, Leroy and Paul; sisters, infant Alice Schneberger, Agnes Butterfield, Germaine Schneberger and Marie Hanken; brothers-in-law, Vern Hanken, Wendell Zumach, Gerald Hopkins and Loren Ambuehl; sisters-in-law, Alma Schneberger, Anna Mae Schneberger, Audrey Schneberger, Lori Schneberger, Marion Hopkins and Mary Zumach.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 5-7 P.M. at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Holy Trinity Catholic Parish or Gundersen Medical Foundation.
