Margaret A Brown (89) of La Crosse, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Eagle Crest South in La Crosse.
Margaret was born May 13, 1935, to Arnold and Beatrice (Jostad) Losen in Decorah, Iowa. She married George E. Brown, Jr on November 23, 1951 at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa.
Margaret was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother (by the age of 37), and great-grandmother (GG). She spread her love to everyone she met and illustrated her care and compassion working full time at Hillview and La Crosse Home for Children. Margaret was a member of Eastern Star for over 50 years, 2 years of which she was Worthy Matron.
Margaret was a second mom to many people. She touched the hearts of all who interacted with her. She always had a lending ear and produced a sense of comfort to those in need. The door to her home was always open just as it was to her heart. Walking in, one was always welcomed by the smell of fresh baked goods and a home-cooked meal. If you were exceptionally lucky, she might even share one of her trademark baking secrets!
During the Wisconsin winters, Margaret and George enjoyed their beautiful home in Pharr, TX and always welcomed family and friends to visit. Margaret looked forward to golf cart rides around the neighborhood so she could show off her guests. Many evenings were filled with the smells of outdoor cooking, the sounds of a “friendly” game of Euchre or Dominos, and making forever memories.
Margaret also enjoyed being on the water with George, the family, and friends to cast a line. She looked forward to teaching others how to clean and cook the fish and made sure we had the “catch of the day” for dinner.
“Mom”, “Grandma”, “GG” will deeply be missed and remembered for the caregiver and family rock she was.
Margaret is survived by her three children, Deb (Bob) Hurd, Cindy (Bob) Stuckey, and Richard “Butch” (Jackie) Brown; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Beverly Breidel.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother Paul Losen, and brother-in-law Arnie Breidel.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 15th, 2024 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave S, La Crosse.
