Marcelle A. (Marcie) Christopher, 104, died on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the Hillview Health Care Center. She was born on June 30, 1914 in La Crosse. Her parents were Jacob and Anna (Auberger) Fuchs, both of whom were recent immigrants from Germany. She married Clarence “Batch” Christopher on June 19, 1935. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She was the youngest of nine siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. They were Angie, Bert, Gene, Marie, John, Adrian, Joseph and Herb.
She is survived by two sons, David (Maria) Christopher and Tom (Tippi) Christopher; two grandchildren, Molly (Steve Suss) Christopher and Corey Christopher; and two great- grandchildren, Miles and Frances Christopher.
She always planned ahead. A few years after Batch died, she recognized a need for more support and she moved into Carrol Heights. After fifteen years she was one of the first residents at Hillview Terrace Assisted Living. Just before her 100th birthday she moved into Hillview Heath Care Center. Her family cannot adequately express their appreciation toward the staff at all three of these facilities. The high quality of care and love she received were exceptional.
The Terry Collins family adopted her as their own. Marcie and her family spent many memorable Thanksgivings at the Collins’ home. Karolyn Collins also was a regular visitor.
The “euchre group “are a merry band of family and special friends. They started playing euchre with her back in 1988. The core group are Judith and Jerry Wiltinger, Paul Kerrigan and Mary and Terry Hicks. They brought her not only a card game, but also a special event in her life. They were all so loving and supportive to her.
She was a very devout Catholic. Her religious beliefs were her compass. She was a long-term member of St. Thomas Moore (Mary, Mother of the Church). In her younger years she enjoyed crewel embroidery and she loved to paint. Another passion of hers was to spend time with family and friends who needed support or company. For over thirty years she regularly spent time brightening other people’s lives. She was an incredible positive person. For her the glass was always half full.
One last thing that needs to be mentioned is her legendary love of chocolate. If anyone could not think of what to give her as a gift, chocolate would always work.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. Rev. Brian Konopa will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of the services. The Schumacher- Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse are in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be sent in Marcie’s name to Hillview Health Care Center.
Deal on Marcie. And, yes, there is a lot of chocolate in Heaven.
