Lucille M Ewers

October 27, 1925 — February 12, 2018

Lucille Marie Ewers, 92 of La Crosse, Wis., beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and loyal friend passed away on Monday, February 12, 2018. Born in Winona, Minn., on October 27, 1925 to Jerome and Ruth (Leyden) Hoeppner. She graduated from Cathedral HS, continuing on to St. Francis School of Nursing as a cadet nurse, graduating in 1947 as an RN. On August 18, 1951, she married Joseph Rodney Ewers of Soldiers Grove, Wis., and they lived in La Crosse the rest of their lives. They were married for 59 years.

Lucille was a homemaker who loved and was loved by many people. She enjoyed offering food or homemade goodies to any visitors who stopped by, even on very short notice, she always had something to offer besides her welcoming smile and friendship. She was a volunteer in a variety of places including Holy Trinity school and choir, XYL club (a social club for ham radio wives), neighborhood drives collecting donations for medical needs, Red Cross, Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, Hospice, Emotions anonymous and was a member of TOPS. She had a gift for making friends quickly of all ages, genuinely accepting and loving people, encouraging and comforting them as needed. She kept many friends for 50 years or more, a testament to her character. She had a servant heart and had a strong faith in God.

She is survived by her children; Richard (Ruth) Ewers of Madison, Wis., Thomas of Circle Pines, MN., Mary Ewers of La Crosse, Gregory Ewers of Dodge Center, MN. and John Ewers of White Bear Lake, MN., grandchildren David, Michelle and Bradley of Madison, Wis., Elizabeth (Jason) Freshwater of Circle Pines, MN., Paul of San Francisco, CA., Haley, Madison and Alexander of Martinez, GA., great grandchildren Caden and Cameron of Madison, Wis., Ava of Circle Pines, her sisters in law Deanna Hoeppner of Wabasha, MN., and Joan Ewers of Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joseph, daughter Ann, brothers Paul and Jerome and brothers in law Robert and Corliss.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 17, 2018 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church; 1333 13 th St. South.  Rev. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse. Friends may call on the family at the church on Saturday from 9:30 A.M. until the time of Mass.

The family of Lucille would like to express sincere thanks to all the friends and relatives, near and far, who remained faithful in their friendships and connections with Lucille over the years, especially the time she spent in the nursing home.
