Louise Marie (Beitlich) Beffa, 98, a longtime resident of La Crosse, WI died at Hillview Health Care Center on November 7, 2017. She was born on the family farm in the Town of Bergen on March 31, 1919. One of ten children, she was the daughter of the late Reinhold J. and Leda (Proksch) Beitlich. She was baptized and confirmed in the
Lutheran faith at St. Matthew's in Stoddard, WI. She attended the rural Grandview School through eighth grade. As a young woman she worked at Grandview Hospital where she baked delicious pastries and pies for the patients and staff. In later years she worked at the Bluffview Motel She was happiest in her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Louise loved to dance and it was at the Concordia where she met her husband, Raymond H. Beffa. They married on September 25, 1946, upon his return from WWII. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1993.
Louise enjoyed nature and being in her garden. She also enjoyed television game shows, bird watching, reading, crossword puzzles and baking cookies. Louise was a longtime member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ladies Aid and served as a Sunday greeter.
She is survived by her children: Carol Beffa Jarvis of Poughkeepsie, NY; Constance (Steve) Russell of Holmen, WI; Cheryl (Bruce) Gilbertson of La Crosse, WI; and Raymond (Marsha) Beffa of Meridian, ID. She was the proud grandmother of one grandson, Austin Russell of Issaquah, WA; four granddaughters, Devon (Ivan Tortosa) Russell of Houlton, WI; Chelsea (Clement Vachon) Jarvis of Sunrise Beach, Queensland, Australia; Emilia and Annabella Beffa of Meridian, ID; and one great-grandson, Luca Tortosa. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Beffa in 1971; four brothers and five sisters. We are happy to think of the ten Beitlich children being together once again.
The family is particularly grateful to Angeline (Dummer) Krause, who was Louise's very kind and special friend for the last ten years. Louise's family also thanks the staff at Hillview Health Care Center for their many, many years of care and support.
