Lorraine M. Derouin

Lorraine M. Derouin, 99, of La Crosse, WI died on Monday, July 13, 2020 at the Riverside Transitional Care Center in La Crosse. Lorraine was born on October 10, 1920 in La Crosse, to Louis N. and Marie B. (Satek) Alberts. She graduated from St. Wenceslaus Elementary School, in 1934, with 13 classmates and then from Central High School in 1938 with well over 200 classmates. She attended Wisconsin Business School, graduating in 1940.

She married Joseph P. Derouin in April of 1942 in Biloxi, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1986.

Lorraine was employed by the State Highway Commission and the UW-L Faculty Senate. She held offices in many organizations, including the Catholic War Veterans, Postal Clerks Auxiliary, AARP, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, NAMI, La Crosse Geneological Society, and the Harry J. Olson Senior Center, where she also played the wash tub in the “Off Beats Kitchen Band.”

Lorraine is survived by three daughters: Kathleen Faas of La Crosse, Patricia Kendhammer of Onalaska and Jeannine (Thomas)Kendhammer of La Crosse. She is further survived by eight grandchildren: Maria Kendhammer, Paula (Will) Finn, Laura (Thomas) Horton, Audra Kendhammer, Lisa (Tim) Servais, Lana (Craig) Tunks, Thomas (Sharon) Kendhammer and Clay (Deanne) Kendhammer. There are 22 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Joseph, Lorraine was preceded in death by two infants, her youngest daughter, Joanne Derouin, brothers John, Edward, George (Chet), Robert (Bob) and Richard Alberts, her grandson, Adam Kendhammer and two sons-in-law, Ronald Faas and Peter Kendhammer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 17 th at 10:30AM at Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. Rev. Brian D. Konopka will officiate. Committal services will be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Masks are required. The family will plan a celebration of life at a later date. Memorials may be sent to Mary, Mother of the Church building fund or NAMI, the National Alliance of Mental Illness.
