Lois M. Pittenger

March 14, 1938 — November 15, 2023

Lois M. Pittenger, 85 of La Crosse, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of November 15, 2023.  She was born to Irvin and Esther Getter on March 14, 1938, in Viroqua, WI.  She married Marvin Pittenger on September 26, 1959, and together they raised four children.  Marvin preceded her in death on August 25, 1985.  She worked for many years at La Crosse Footwear, retiring for health reasons at 61, shortly before the factory closed.

Lois was fiercely independent and could be incredibly stubborn at times, but had a heart of gold and was generous almost to a fault.  Her most beloved role in life was grandma and great grandma.  The older grandchildren will remember “Saturdays with Grandma”, when she would take one grandchild at a time for lunch and a movie or activity of their choice.  She loved being a part of birthday parties, high school and college graduations, and as the grandchildren grew, weddings.

As the grandchildren started to have children of their own, her face beamed and she cherished every time she was able to see and spend time with the great grandchildren.  She was especially close to one of her oldest great-grandchildren, Nevaeh.

In later years, when she couldn’t get out as much, she adored and doted on her constant companion – her cat Nellie.

She is survived by three children, Debra (Donald) Kane, Raymond (Nancy) Pittenger, and Judy Klinksi; her grandchildren, Jerry Kane, Ryan (Alyssa) Kane, Miranda (Cory) Riley, Jim Pittenger, Jessica (Johann) Buhr, Amber Pittenger, Travis Klinski, Matthew Klinski and Tyler Klinski. She is further survived by her great grandchildren, Carly Jo Kane, Tripp and Taelyn Riley, Hayleigh, Aria, Zoey, Lacie, Sophia and Amelia Buhr and Nevaeh Klinski.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; daughter, Diane (Pittenger) Bradley; a great grandchild, Neil Kane; brothers, Maurice and Bernard Getter; and sister, Elnora Moe; her parents and in-laws.

Per her wishes there will be no memorial service.  There will be a private family burial at a later date.

Special thanks to:

Renee:  although she appreciated your weekly visits to help with cleaning and laundry, she LOVED the time spent and the conversations had while you were there.

Moments Hospice - especially Aubrey, Casondra, Ashley and Beth: She looked forward to seeing each of you and truly enjoyed your visits, conversations and assistance – you made her last few months much more enjoyable.  Thank you.
