Linda Proudfoot, 81, of Holmen passed away on August 11, 2023 at Bethany St. Joseph Care Center after a brave battle with cancer. She was born in La Crosse WI on January 7th 1942 to Paul and Charlotte (Brinstad) Stahr. Growing up in La Crescent, she worked as a carhop at her parents’ root beer stand. Linda graduated from Central High School in La Crosse in 1959.
She married John Proudfoot on February 11, 1961. While raising their four boys, Linda wore many different hats. From waitress at the Nodine Truck Stop, and clerk at the La Crescent IGA, to Manager of both the United Credit Union and the Postal Worker’s Credit Union in La Crosse, finally retiring from St John’s United Church of Christ as their secretary. Additionally, she and her sister owned and operated The Second Best Shoppe, a resale store - way before those shops were cool.
Most important in her life were her family, friends, and of course, her love of God. She also enjoyed Quilting and loved to watch Jeopardy and “The Wheel”, and her very favorite, the Milwaukee Brewers.
One of her true joys was her Grandchildren. She loved to attend their many events.
Her faith led her to be very active in her church, serving as a Stephen Minister, as well as on the Evangelism Committee. She and John also cooked many meals for Logos and the Apple Fest Chicken Que.
Her years of in-depth Bible study came to life when she visited the Holy Land.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Charlotte (Brinstad) Stahr, and infant Grandson, Brady. She is survived by her husband, four sons: Brian (Linda) Proudfoot of Hokah MN; Brent (Susan) Proudfoot of Money Creek, MN; Brad (Shellie) Proudfoot of Dresbach MN, and Bruce Proudfoot of La Crosse. Eleven grandchildren: TJ, Brynn, Casey, Dylan, Anna (and her husband Jason), Bailey, Garret, Becca, Miranda, Gavin and Tessah. One sister, Paula (Robert)Tippery, two brothers, Dennis (Ingrid) Stahr of San Diego CA, and Ron Stahr of Milwaukee.
Visitation will be at La Crescent United Methodist Church on Friday, August 18, from 4 to 7 PM, and Saturday, August 19, from 10 AM until time of service at 11. Pastors Dianne Ciesluk and Mark Miller will officiate. Luncheon to follow service, with burial at Oakland Cemetary, Dresbach MN.
The family requests any memorials be made to Linda’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Childrens Research Hospital.
