Lillian Gertrude Kletzke “Lightnin Lil “of La Crescent, MN. Passed away on February 27th, 2025 at the age of 87 after a long battle with cancer.
Lillian was born on October 27th,1937 to Lloyd and Myrtle (Brader) Huffey in Van Nuys, Ca. She was the eldest of 14 children. At the age of 7 the family moved to Iowa where Lillian spent the majority of her childhood, finishing her High School years in Missouri.
After graduating, Lillian moved back to California where she studied nursing and landed her first job as a Registered Nurse at Brotman Memorial Hospital in Culver City, Ca.
Lillian met and married her first husband Chardin Smith. The couple enjoyed many happy years living in Ca. They then decided to purchase some land and made the move to Hokah, MN. in 1980. They were blessed with 35 years together before Chardin’s passing in 2000.
Lillian met & married her second husband Jean Kletzke of La Crescent in 2002. They spent their Golden Years traveling together on US bus tours, cruises and a trip to Ireland. They enjoyed gambling and had season tickets to The La Crosse Symphony Orchestra every year. They were blessed with a 14-year marriage before Jean’s passing in 2016.
Lillian spent her free time volunteering, golfing, bowling, gardening and really enjoyed playing scrabble and words with friends. She believed in giving back to her community and had a generous spirit.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, her son Gregory, husbands Chardin and Jean, brothers Wes and Jerry, and sisters Irene and Tommie.
She is survived by her son Michael (Charmaine) Smith of Brownsville, MN, her Grand-daughters Shauna (Ross) Mundinger of La Crescent, MN, and Samantha (Benjamin) Kramer of La Crosse, WI, Great-Grandchildren Wyatt and Owen Mundinger & Eleanor Kramer, sisters Barbara and Darlene, and brothers Jim, Bill, Richard, Martin, David, Ernie and Ron.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the entire La Crosse Mayo Health Systems HOSPICE Team. Their unwavering support made a profound difference during this challenging time. Their dedication addressed the needs of Lillian's mind, body and spirit. We hold deep respect for their exceptional care and commitment.
The family also expresses sincere gratitude to the staff at Springbrook Village of La Crescent for their compassionate care and support shown to Lillian during her illness.
Private services will be held at a later date.
