Libia is originally from Buga, Colombia where her family owned their home and several ranches. She was raised in the Catholic Church. Libia has 4 brothers and 2 sisters. She moved to Houston, Texas during her teenage years. After getting established in Houston, she assisted other family members in moving there. Libia graduated from high school in Houston and started a career in business.
Libia met her husband, Brian, in 1975 in Houston. They married in 1977 and began a 46-year marriage. Brian and Libia moved to Tennessee in 1977 where Brian was a graduate student at Tennessee Technological University. Libia started working towards a college degree at Tennessee Technological University and worked part time in the Administration Office. Libia and Brian moved to La Crosse in 1978 where they started their family and were blessed with three excellent sons, Kevin, James, and Scott and countless wonderful memories. Libia also has three grandsons, Matthew, Xavier, and Sebastian. Libia has two daughters (Libia Elizabeth Bohorquez in Houston and Claudia Carolina Bohorquez in Los Angeles).
Libia received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in Secondary Education with a major in Spanish. She spent most of her professional career working as an interpreter for the La Crosse County Court system. Libia was also a substitute Spanish teacher for several La Crosse area school districts.
Libia’s passion and joy was raising her children and taking care of her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. Libia and Brian traveled every year to different USA cities for ASHRAE conventions for Brian’s job with Trane. They also visited family in California, Florida, Texas, Indiana, and South Carolina.
Libia had a happy and positive outlook, even as her health declined. When asked she would always say that she was calm and feeling very good. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts that will not quickly heal. She will be missed by family, friends, and anyone whose life she touched.
Libia is preceded in death by her mother and father (Tulia and Juan Canció Arango) and brother (Ivan).
