Lewis August Thesing, 87, of Dresbach, MN., passed away peacefully at home on July 7th, 2021. Lewis was born June 3rd , 1934, to Rudolph and Gertrude (Boehm) Thesing. He joined the United States Marine Corps on September 26, 1952 and served two years during the Korean War. On October 6th, 1956, he married Mavis Unnasch at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent.
Lewis was self employed in construction for many years, employed by Trane Company and employed by Franciscan Skemp in the maintenance department. After leaving the work force, he kept busy doing foster care and respite care for many years. He will be remembered for the enjoyment that he brought to the many family gatherings, cards, picnics, hunting/fishing trips and family vacations.
He is survived by his children Rick (Kelly) Thesing of Brownsville, MN; Debbie (Dan) Fuchsel of La Crescent, MN., Tami Michaels of La Crescent, MN., Randy (Sue) Thesing of Houston, MN., Mark (Lori) Thesing of La Crescent, MN., Cari (Brian) Stremcha of Nodine, MN., Lori (Todd) Elton of Chandler, OK., Dan (Pam) Thesing of La Crescent, MN., Jim Thesing (significant other: Karla Colsch) of Dresbach MN., and Samantha (significant other: Taylor). He is further survived by thirty-one grandchildren, fifty-nine great-grandchildren (with three more to join the family shortly); one sister, Joyce Clements; a sister-in-law, Sharon (Ken Spaulding); and many nieces and nephews (including some special family members – Steve Thesing, Brian Beach and Matt Horn) In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mavis; a son, Edward, a granddaughter, Brittney Fuchsel, two brothers, Rudy and Roy Thesing, two sisters, Esther Mc Collum and Delores Demorest, a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Thesing, and a son-in-law, Todd Michaels.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at The Church of the Crucifixion, 423 South 2nd Street, La Crescent, MN., with Father John L. Evans II officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday at The Church of the Crucifixion, with Rosary beginning at 6:40 p.m. Friends may also call from 12 noon until the time of Mass on Tuesday.
