Leonilda E. (Linda Geier) Nilsestuen, 71, of Trempealeau, WI passed away January 27, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse. She was born on November 25, 1946 at the Vernon Memorial Hospital in Viroqua, WI to Leonard and Estella (Erickson) Geier. She spent her early years in Pine Hollow northeast of Cashton, WI and then moved with her family to Middle Ridge west of Cashton, WI in 1951. She graduated from St. Peters Elementary School at Middle Ridge west of Cashton, WI.
She went to Bangor High School for two years and graduated from Cashton High School in 1964. She had been employed at both St. Francis Nursing Home and La Crosse County Health and Human Services.
She is survived by her loving husband, Arvid Nilsestuen, two daughters; Christina “Tina” Dahlstrom of La Crosse, WI and Tammy (Daniel) Thompson of Holmen, WI, two granddaughters; Hannah and Adeline Dahlstrom, one grandson; Nicholas Thompson, five stepchildren; Christine (Jerry) Reigle of Beloit, WI, Daniel (Anna Arndt) Nilsestuen of Watertown, WI, Timothy (Kathryn) Nilsestuen of Jackson, WI, Jessica Nilsestuen of Jefferson, WI, Jennifer (Jonathan) Waters of Schaumberg, IL, seven step grandchildren; Cody and Tiffany Hodder, Haven, Sophia, Brendon and Aryanna Nilsestuen and Carl Waters, one sister; Carol Geier of Houston, MN, two brothers; Robert (Sandy) Geier of Watertown, WI and Richard Geier of Carmi, IL, and a sister-in-law Agnes (James Krall) Nilsestuen of Lexington, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Norma.
Linda was best known for her crocheting and caring for the elderly and disabled. She was very proud of her family. Her church and church family was also very important to her. Arvid and Linda loved to travel. Her favorite trip was to Norway.
Thank you for all the visits, cards, prayers, and to Olivet Lutheran Church for their support. A special thank you to Dr. Tobert and his staff, Dr. Zivney and his staff, The Rehabilitation Department, and Palliative Care at Gundersen Health System.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Monday, February 5, 2018 at Olivet Beacon of Light Church, French Island, La Crosse. Pastor David Baldukas and Pastor Andrew Fortuine will officiate. Burial will take place in the North Coon Prairie Lutheran Church Cemetery, south of Cashton. Friends may call at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel, 200 West Avenue South on Sunday evening from 4pm until 6pm and again at the church on Monday from 10am until the time of services.
