Leo M. Harpstreith

Leo Michael “Mike” Harpstreith, 73, of La Crosse, died Friday, April 26, 2019, doing what he loved, working in his yard. Born May 17, 1945, in La Crosse, to Leo J. and Evelyn P (Nelson) Harpstreith, he spent his entire life in the area.  Leo married Deanna A. Olson on December 3 ^rd , 1966, in La Crosse.

Leo worked at Pepsi, retiring in 2013 after 34 years. Leo liked work.  He especially loved to be challenged and the reward was in finding the solution.  In retirement, Leo took on many projects at home from total kitchen remodel to yard makeover. His yard was his passion.  He built a multilevel deck, raised gardens, stone pathways, fountains and beautiful flower and vegetable gardens.  If Leo was home, he was working. His hobbies included antiques, restoring his childhood Schwinn bicycle, a 1938 Buick, and he was currently working on his Ford tractor.  When Leo took on a project, the end result was something better then new.  Leo had an incredible sense of humor and always made people laugh and smile. He made many friendships over the years, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.  He will be deeply missed.

Leo is survived by his beloved wife, Deanna; his cat, Lady; three brothers, Neil of Milwaukee, Terry (Phyllis) of La Crosse and Ted (Mercy) of Trempealeau; one sister, Sandy Davis (Bruce); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Pat Nelson; nephew, Stephen Nelson; and pet children, Augie and Mike.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, May 3 ^rd , at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. So., La Crosse, with Rev. James Radatz officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service and a reception will immediately follow the service at the Moose Lodge, 1932 Ward Ave., La Crosse.
