Larry D. Johnson, 89, of Genoa, WI, died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at the Gundersen Health Care in La Crosse. He was born on October 9, 1928 in La Crosse to John and Ruth (Hastings) Johnson. Larry served with the US Army during the Korean War. He married Joyce Ghelfi on July 30, 1951 in Caledonia, MN. Larry was a commercial fisherman and turtle hunter. He had worked at the fish hatchery in Genoa and sandblasting for the Army Corps of Engineers. He also worked at the Genoa Dam for many years. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, and bird watching.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joyce, seven children, Jeff Johnson of Elroy, WI, Cheryl (Randy) Dammon of La Crosse, Rae (Kirk) Holliday of DeSoto, WI, John (Barb) Johnson of Mahomet, IL, Steve (Lisa) Johnson of Longmont, CO, Tama (Arnie) Trussoni of Genoa, and Lynn (Carl) Hohman of Genoa, 23 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law Arlys Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse. Larry’s niece, Donna Fillmore will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Genoa. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., and again on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
