Kenneth W. Kramer, 87, of La Crosse, died on Friday, January 12, 2018 at the Lakeview Health Center in West Salem. He was born on August 17, 1930 in La Crosse to Bernard “Ben” and Margaret (Cain) Kramer. Ken was a US Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 101 st Airborne. He married Donna M. McNally on April 7, 1951 in Holy Cross Catholic Church. She preceded him in death in 2009. Ken worked in the construction field his entire life, building bridges and many large projects all over the Midwest. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping with family and friends. He also loved playing cards. Ken was a proud member of the Moose Lodge 1920, where he obtained the highest order of Pilgrim. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 52 and the Carpenter’s Union Local 1143. Ken also served as a eucharistic minister at the Cathedral. Ken was a very outgoing and giving man to others.
He is survived by seven children, Kenneth (Sharon) of Holmen, Michael of La Crosse, Jeffery (Sherrie) of La Crosse, Pamela (Richard) Veglahn of La Crosse, Rand (Maureen) of Holmen, Kathy (Gale) Buchholtz of La Crosse, and Dianne (Bill) Briggs of La Crosse, 19 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. In addition to his wife of 58 years, he was preceded in death by a daughter Kimberly, a grandson Joshua, his parents, brothers Edward “Bud” and LaVern, sisters Viola Gram and Delores “Dorey” Zimmerman-Garbers and a son-in-law, Michael Craig.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Cathedral of St. Joseph the Workman. Msgr. Charles Stoetzel will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse on Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations will be used for the Moose Heart or NASA (North American Squirrel Association).
Ken will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His family would like to thank all the staff member at Lakeview Health Care Center for the care and support they gave Ken for the last several years. It was greatly appreciated.
