Kay Dianne Mickschl

Kay Dianne (Olson) Mickschl, 78, of Onalaska died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Gundersen Medical Center in La Crosse, WI. She was born November 29, 1938 in La Crosse to Arthur and Doris (Jefson) Olson. Living her entire life in the La Crosse area, Kay graduated in 1956 from La Crosse Central High School. Kay married Reuben “Mitch” Mickschl on March 26, 1960 at English Lutheran Church. Mitch preceded her in death on May 6, 2003. She was a loving mom and grandma, staying home to raise her children. She was an excellent cook, made the world’s greatest potato salad, loved to change her hair color, was born to shop, buy new shoes and purses. She was a racing enthusiast and loved her time at La Crosse Speedway. She loved and cared deeply for her dogs and birds throughout her life. She worked at Machine Products of La Crosse, WI, and enjoyed her time with fellow workers during her time working at the Company Store of La Crosse, WI.

Kay is survived by her three children: Elisa (Ronald) Houser, Rick (Sandy) Mickschl, both of Onalaska, WI, Marc (Lea) Mickschl of Caledonia, MN.; four grandchildren: Mikael Asfoor, Katerina Houser and Tyler Mickschl, all of Onalaska, WI and Alyssa (Brandon) Martinez of Oceanside, CA. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Deborah) Olson of Bristol, IL and her sister, Dorothy Ellen (Francis) Volden of Scottsdale, AZ., a niece Laura Olson and nephews Brian and Scott Olson, all of Illinois. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and nephew Rodney Volden.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of Onalaska, 907 Sand Lake Road, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a celebration of life service being held at 6 p.m. Reverend Ted Dewald will officiate the service. A private family burial will be held at the Mormon Coulee Memorial Park at a later date. Memorials in Kay’s name may be directed to the Coulee Region Humane Society, Onalaska, WI or Onalaska Care Center, Onalaska WI for their bike transport fundraiser.

The family would like to thank all the care workers at Maplewood, West Salem, WI, Gundersen Health Palliative Care, with special thanks to the staff at Onalaska Care Center for their wonderful and loving care and concern for Kay
