Kathleen H. Wright

Kathleen H. (Antony) Wright, 74, of La Crosse, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. She was born on January 2, 1948, in La Crosse to La Verne and Helen (Oehrle) Antony. Kathy graduated from Central High School in 1966 and on July 6, 1968, she married her high school sweetheart, Wayne Wright.

Kathy started working at St. Francis Hospital before moving to Bethany St. Joe’s where she worked for 34 years. She also enjoyed working as a tax advisor at H&R Block where she got to know so many people. A lot of her clients would wait for Kathy, because they only trusted her with their taxes. Her daughter’s childhood friends and family members looked forward to catching up with Kathy every tax season. Kathy worked at H&R Block for 34 years.

Kathy and Wayne loved to go boating with friends and later moved on to golfing with friends. They enjoyed traveling together, sometimes just driving around Wisconsin with the top down on their Mustang convertible. As long as they were together, that is all they needed to have fun. No family picnic or get together was complete without Kathy’s potato salad. Kathy enjoyed attending her grandson’s sporting and scouting events. She loved to send her grandson's packages with all things Wisconsin: cheese from Renards, meats from Neuske’s and Pleasoning spices. They loved receiving these special care packages from grandma. Kathy enjoyed buying local scratch-off lottery tickets from small businesses when she traveled. She also enjoyed reading, especially romance novels, and watching the Brewers, Badgers and Packers. Her family and friends will miss their long phone calls and visits with her.

Kathy is survived by her two daughters, Lisa (David) Alvarez of Austin, TX, and their sons Dylan Alvarez of Dallas, TX and Logan Alvarez of Austin, TX and Laura Wright of La Crescent, MN; and her son Avery Steele of La Crescent, MN; siblings, Barbara Oldenburg, Carol (Wayne) Schreiber, Sandra Lyden, La Verne (Bonnie) Antony, Jim (Chris) Antony; along with several nieces and nephews.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents, Helen and La Verne Antony; an infant sister, Patricia; her parents-in-law, Leona and Henry Wright; and brothers-in-law, Dennis Wright and Tony Oldenburg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the 4th Infantry Division WI Chapter Scholarship Fund.
