Karl W. Friedline

April 13, 1930 — May 30, 2024

Karl W. Friedline, 94, of Onalaska, WI passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2024 in his home. He was born and raised in Jennerstown, PA.  An Alumnus of Ferndale HS, Indiana University (PA-1953) and Syracuse University (NY-1958). Karl served proudly in the US Navy and US Naval Reserve rising to rank of Commander. In 1953 Karl married Marcia Jean Baumgardner of Johnstown, PA. Their union of 62 years flourished until Marcia’s passing in 2016.

Karl and Marcia lived in VA, PA and NY before settling in La Crosse, WI in 1965.  Employers in La Crosse include WKBT Channel 8, University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, WWTI (Western Technical College).

Karl was a talented and accomplished musician.  He performed at many weddings, funerals and countless venues. He sang and played with TheRosewood Trio, Al Townsend’s Wonderful World Jazz Band and The Grumpy Old Men and may be best known for his performances of the German National Anthem during Oktoberfest.  His involvement in Oktoberfest started with his service as 1991 Fest master and never slowed.  He proudly served as an ambassador to Oktoberfest and to La Crosse.

Karl will be greatly missed by his 2 sons, Dwight/Chip (Ann) of The Villages, FL, and Kirk (Geva Thole) of La Crosse, WI. Grandchildren Dana (Mike) Darling, Katie (David) Foag, Miles Friedline, and Nolan Friedline. Great grandchildren Devon, Bryce and Mattias. Karl will also be dearly missed by his best friend Carolyn Karl of Onalaska, WI.  Karl was preceded in death by his wife Marcia, siblings; George (Charlotte) Friedline, Helen (Leroy) Chadwick, and Earl (Erla) Friedline.

The family would like to thank the Gundersen Hospice team and Quality Comfort Care Staff for the wonderful care given to Karl and the compassionate, loving care of Carolyn Karl.

A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Waterfront Cargill Room from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with sharing at 5:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the charity of your choice.
