Karen Ellen Schultz

Karen Ellen Schultz (Mortensen), 61, of La Crescent, Minn., passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on Friday, September 28, 2018.

She was born November 5, 1956 in Shell Lake, Wis. to Lawrence and Ellen Mortensen. She married David Schultz on June 24, 1978, and they enjoyed 40 years together. She received her Associate’s Degree from Western Wisconsin Technical College in early childhood education. She worked at La Crescent-Hokah Elementary School for many years.

Karen is survived by her husband, David; her son, John (Emily) Schultz of Chanhassen, Minn., and daughter, Stacy Schultz (Brian Reider) of St. Louis Park, Minn.; one loving granddaughter, Madison Schultz; and her sister, Kathie (Dick) Reiten, along with many dear nieces and nephews. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ellen Mortensen.

The family would like to especially thank Sherry Hill, Connie Moldenhauer, and hospice care at Mayo La Crosse for the past 3 years of in-home care.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2018, at Crucifixion Catholic Church, 423 South Second Street, La Crescent, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Father Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will take place in Crucifixion Cemetery and a luncheon will follow back at church.
