Karen Marie Murry, 56, of Onalaska, passed away at her home on Friday, June 19, 2020.
She was born November 18, 1963, in La Crosse to Glen and Valrie (Marohn) Sloan. She attended Immanuel Lutheran Grade School on the northside of La Crosse and graduated from Luther High School in 1981. She received her Associate Degree in Accounting from WWTC in 1983. On June 27, 1987, Karen married Michael Murry at Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Crosse.
Karen worked for Hawkins, Ash & Baptie for several years before making a career change to stay-at-home Mom. She also served as an administrative assistant at Luther High School for a year. Karen was a long-time active member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska where she served as the Special Funds Treasurer for several years and was involved in several Bible study groups.
Karen is survived by her husband, Michael; her children, Daniel Murry of New Berlin, Wis., Elizabeth (Rev. Nathan) Laska of Elgin, N. Dak., Timothy (Abigail) Murry of Onalaska, Laura (Andrew) Spittlemeister of Eagan, Minn., and Amber Murry of Onalaska; her mother, Valrie of Onalaska; her brothers and sisters, Rev. Rodger (Beth) Sloan of Schofield, Wis., Arlan (Kathryn) Sloan of Woodbury, Minn., Carol (Rev. Thomas) Gumm of Las Cruces, N. Mex., Marvin (Julie) Sloan of Onalaska, and Steven Sloan of New Berlin, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Sloan.
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 25 th , at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 1201 Main St., in Onalaska, with Pastor Daniel Olson officiating. Burial will follow in Onalaska City Cemetery. The service will also be livestreamed at http://www.stpaulsonalaska.org/gather/watch-services. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the church and again on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Guests are asked to be mindful of social distancing guidelines while in attendance and masks or cloth facial coverings are recommended. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Luther High School or St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
