Julie Lyn Libke Pool, 51, passed away July 24, 2019 at the home of her sister and brother-in-law in Hinckley, MN, with her family by her side after a five-year battle with cancer.
Julie was born on March 24, 1968 to James and Sandra (Wendorf) Libke, the second of three children. Julie was baptized and confirmed in the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran faith and was devoted throughout her life. She attended First Evangelical Lutheran School, Logan High School, Class of 1986, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, graduating in 1990 with her bachelor’s degree in Social Work. Julie’s career passion was geriatrics, spending 12 years as a social worker at Rolling Hills Rehabilitation and Retirement Home in Sparta, WI, and 16 years as Director of Social Services at Good Samaritan in St. Croix Falls, WI.
Julie was a caring, loving, and trustworthy daughter, sister, wife, step-mother, aunt, niece, and friend. To those of us having the honor to know her, she was the peacemaker and our unconditional support system. She married Scott A. Pool on May 3, 2003 in Runaway Bay, Jamaica. As a wife and step-mother, she brought strength, passion, and companionship to her husband, and lovingly helped rear his four children. Throughout her illness, Julie’s positive attitude and faith-based acceptance was a source of comfort to those around her. To the very end, she put others ahead of herself, considerate of others’ comfort and happiness, while facing her own daunting medical journey.
Julie is survived by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Denine and Jeff Rood and their children, Alyssa, Samuel (Hannah), and Alexander Rood, her brother and sister-in-law, Gregory and Kellie Libke and their children, Matthew and Nathan Libke, her husband Scott and her step-children, Katherine (Jay) Bawar, William, Ashley (Johnny) Koalska, and Nicholas. She is further survived by three grandchildren, Pascal Bawar, and Holley and Eliza Koalska, and aunts, uncles, and cousins who all shared a love for this wonderful woman. She will be greatly missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion in St. Croix Falls, WI, on Tuesday, August 6, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00pm. Julie’s memorial service will be held at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse, WI, at 11:00am on Saturday, August 10, 2019 with Pastor Roger Sachs as the officiant. Visitation begins at 9:30am. A private interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery in Sparta, WI.
Julie’s family is appreciative to all of the medical providers and hospice team members at the University of Minnesota Medical Center and Fairview Health Services who have devoted their life’s work to treating individuals suffering from cancer.
