Judith A. (Knutson) Severino, 77, of Bangor, formerly of La Crosse, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 16, 2018. She was born in La Crosse on May 18, 1940 to Obed and Alice (Snow) Schaller. Judy graduated from Logan High School. She was united in marriage to Ray Knutson on August 12, 1958. Judy and Ray had a dairy farm in Polo, IL and later in Wilton, WI where they raised their five sons. Judy worked at the Elroy Middle School as a clerical aid and for many years as an insurance agent for Hofmeister Insurance and Royal Insurance of Elroy.
Judy was the family glue, making sure to plan family gatherings or outings. She was an excellent cook and baker so that her boys had plenty of energy for the farm chores. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren-going to movies, bowling, playing dress up and traveling to Wisconsin Dells for mini golf or waterpark action.
Judy and Ray later divorced. Judy married John Severino on May 3, 2002. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2014. Judy later re-united with her former husband, Ray Knutson, who became her companion and loving caregiver as she struggled with Alzheimers.
Judy is survived by her former husband, Ray Knutson; five sons, Rick(Patty) Knutson, Ray(Nancy) Knutson, Rob(Rhonda) Knutson, Rod(Deb) Knutson, and Rusty(Teresa) Knutson; ten grandchildren, Casey(Clint) Meyers, Carrie Norrid, Melissa Knutson, Eric and Megan Knutson, Morgan and Taylor Knutson, and Kaitlyn, Coen, and Ella Knutson; seven great grandchildren, Cailee and Brenna Meyers, Heather and Ashlee Norrid, Brayden Bronson, and Skylar and Syvana Knutson. Judy is also survived by her siblings, Joan DeVries, Dan(Sonja) Schaller, Lynette Neumann, and Linda Cody, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother Alice(Schaller) Leisz, her brothers Dave and Randy Schaller, and a brother-in-law Tom DeVries.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse. Pastor Kathleen Charles will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of services.
Judy’s family would like to thank the staff of the Mayo Clinic Hospice Care. A special thanks to Wendy Hewuse and grand-daughter, Taylor Knutson, for the care that they provided for Judy.
