Juanita "Nita" K. Affeldt

Juanita K. “Nita” (Huber) Affeldt, age 89, of La Crosse, WI, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at her home with her granddaughter, Stephanie, and son-in-law, Tim, by her side. Nita was born at home on September 22, 1934, to Leonard and Katherine Huber in Sparta, WI. She grew up on the family farm in Upper Burns Valley and attended Bangor High School. After graduating in 1952, she moved to La Crosse to continue her education and seek employment. She started her working career with the La Crosse County Milk Producers. On June 1, 1957, Juanita married Robert “Bob” Affeldt at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Bob preceded her in death just two months and ten days earlier on October 23, 2023. To this union, two children were born, Kimberly and Kathleen. Nita then stayed at home to raise her daughters. Once she could get back into the workforce, she started working at Burger King as a hostess and cashier. She worked there for many years before taking time off to help care for her grandchildren before returning to Burger King, where she worked until retirement.

Juanita is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly (Timothy) Candahl and Kathleen (Richard) Morgan; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jessica) Candahl, Melissa (Tyler) Schmitz, Stephanie (David) LaBeause, and Benjamin (Melissa) Morgan; great grandchildren, Jordan and Mackenzie Candahl, Alexis, Brinley, Braelyn, Tevyn and Konnor Schmitz, Jackson and Wyatt LaBeause, and Grace, Cameron, and Ava Morgan; two step great grandchildren, Ethan and Cade Larson; sister, Clarice Waldenberger; brothers, Merlin (Carol) Huber and Ken (Carol) Huber; sister-in-law, Lois Huber; many nieces and nephews; and two extended family members, Chandler Head and Katie McCormack.

Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Leonard and Katherine Huber; brothers, Donovan Huber and one in infancy; brothers-in-law, Clare Waldenberger and William (Jeanne) Affeldt; and sister-in-law, Donna (James) Jones.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 12, 2024, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 West Ave S, La Crosse, WI 54601. Visitation will be held from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of La Crosse, 200 West Ave. South, La Crosse, WI 54601 and one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Rev. Richard Pamperin will officiate. Burial will be held at Mormon Coulee Memorial Park in La Crosse, WI.
