Joyce Anita Groth

Joyce A. Groth, 89 of La Crosse, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse. She was born in rural Stoddard, Wis., on January 21, 1928 to John and Inga (Olson) Hunder. She married Gerhardt Groth in August of 1949 and he preceded her in death on July 30, 2002. Joyce was a homemaker most of her married life. She was a very gentle soul who cared about everyone especially her family. She loved to bake, make lefse, play cards and crochet. She was a good babysitter for her grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her three daughters; Dawn (Dwight “Ike”) Wilkins of Viroqua, Wis., Pamela Murphy of La Crosse, Colleen (Dean Hart) Gerke of Stoddard; one son Delmen (Diane Roesler) Groth of Coon Valley, Wis., six grandchildren; Stacey, Tracy, Wesley, Tim, Kyle and Emily; 11 great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters Ray (Alice) Hunder, Clairmont Hunder, Dave (Luetta) Hunder, Yvonne Swarthout, Carrol Hunder, Sandra Hunder; several nieces and nephews and her daughter in law Ruth Groth of Stoddard. In addition to her husband Gerhardt “Slim” Groth, she was preceded in death by one son Rodney Groth, sister in law Alice Hunder, two nephews and step mother Esther (Schlicht) Hunder.

The family would like to give special thanks to mom’s wonderful and caring helpers; Tracy Richert, Kathy Steinke. Also, her great neighbors Bob and Dana Wagner. Thank you to the caring hospice care team. You were all appreciated.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in La Crosse. Pastor Richard Pamprin will officiate. Burial will follow in Mormon Coulee Memorial Park, town of Shelby. Friends may call on the family Wednesday evening from 5 until 7pm at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse chapel; 200 West Ave. So. Visitation will also be held at the church on Thursday morning from 10am until the time of services.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be used in Joyce’s memory.
