Jose Luis Estrada Toscano

December 13, 1963 — October 25, 2023

José Luis Estrada Toscano, 59, of La Crosse, WI, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, October 25, 2023.  He was born December 13, 1963, in Jovellanos, Cuba.  He came to La Crosse as part of the group of refugees in the Mariel Boatlift of 1980. At only 16, he was one of the youngest Cubans to come to the area during that time.

Jose spent his earlier years in the U.S. learning trades. He was trained in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and many other facets of construction. He worked for multiple contractors over the years and was known for his tireless work ethic and wealth of knowledge of construction. He was most recently employed at Badger Corrugating where he had been working for a number of years.

Jose was a family man as well, having four children: Tamica, Jose, Lorraina, and DeMuir. He was also a grandfather to two granddaughters: Mileena and Kalena. He was very devoted to and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Jose was a beloved friend to many, many people. He had a way of making friends easily, generously helping people, and always making people smile. Known for his big grin, loud laugh, Don King hairdo, and crazy antics, Jose was a man who lived his life with exclamation points, giving full weight to the expression, “work hard, play hard.”  He had a deep love of boating and the river, dancing and listening to music, and being immensely proud of his finished projects. He was truly a fearless one-of-a-kind whose joy and spirit will be so greatly missed.

Please join his family and friends on Sunday, November 19th from 12 until 2pm to honor his memory at Tequila’s Bar and Grill; 515 West Ave. N., La Crosse WI. 54601.
