John Peter Wieczorek, 71, of French Island passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, August 11th with his girls by his side. John was born on May 18th, 1953 in Madison, WI to John and Anne (Gorecki) Wieczorek. He graduated from Sparta High School in 1971 then received his bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. John married the love of his life, Linda, on October 27, 1984. John and Linda shared nearly 40 years of marriage and were blessed with daughters, Bethany and Anna. One of John’s greatest achievements came later in life as “Papa” to Paige, Graham, and Grace.
John enjoyed a variety of interests including Wisconsin sports, swimming, and the arts. He had a great appreciation for literature, classic movies, and jazz music. He could often be found singing in the kitchen as he hand wrote letters to loved ones.
John is survived by his wife Linda (Tyler) Wieczorek; daughters, Beth (Troy) Johnson and Anna (Nick) Goldbeck; grandchildren, Paige Johnson and Graham and Grace Goldbeck; sisters, Mary (Tom) Kressin, Annie Wieczorek (Haig Derderian); brothers and sisters-in-law, Hazel Tyler, Betty Tyler, Dorothy Ritter, Tom (Sherry) Tyler, Milt Tyler, Paul (Elaine) Tyler; his special Uncle Butch (Joseph Gorecki); his dog, Millie; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Wieczorek; father-in-law, Les Tyler; mother-in-law, Violet (Aiken) Tyler; brothers-in-law, Les Tyler, Gene Tyler, Jack Ritter; and sister-in-law, Marlene Tyler.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, August 17th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, August 16th, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services of Onalaska and one hour prior to Mass at the church. Msgr. Steven Kachel will officiate. Committal services will be held at the French Island Cemetery immediately following Mass.
John’s family would like to give a special thank you to the entire Gundersen Hospice Team, especially Nicole and Ashley, for the great care they provided.
