John P. “Jackie” Weber, 69, passed away on July 1, 2024. He was born on May 28, 1955. John was known as “Jackie” to family members and long-time neighbor friends. He was the third child but first boy born to the late John A. “Jack” Weber and Estelle (Bicha) Weber. He was named after his two grandfathers, John J. Weber (Violet) and Peter Bicha (Estella), which allowed him to carry on the tradition of the many generations of “John Weber” from La Crosse. He is survived by his siblings, Linda (Bill) Baumgartner of Chetek, WI, Roberta (Bobbie) Weber and Tom Weber of La Crosse and Richard Weber of West Des Moines, Iowa; as well as his nephew Jeff Bahr and niece Jordana Weber. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Holly and her husband Mike Bahr.
Jackie attended Holy Trinity School and Aquinas High, graduating in 1973. After high school, he pursued his life-long passion of riding, jumping, showing and training horses. He also taught these skills to others. These interests led him to Florida and other parts of the country where the warmer weather permitted year-round activities. While he never cared much for cold weather, he eventually returned to La Crosse to help support the health needs of his parents.
During his childhood and young adult life, he bought, sold and raised a variety of domesticated birds. Jackie’s “bird hobby” became a big part of the entire Weber family’s daily routine. Family, neighbors and even strangers spent many hours watching his flock in the outdoor aviary. His love for nature and all animals, especially birds, lasted throughout his life. Like him, while in their early years, most of his siblings took piano lessons but he was the only one to actually become an accomplished pianist. This talent provided a wonderful outlet for him during his school years. He will always be remembered for his sense of independence and his love and connectedness to animals and family.
John’s family wishes to thank St. Croix Hospice, especially Betsy, Kayla and Alex, for the kind care and support provided.
There will be no visitation or services held. His family will hold a private gathering at a later date.
To make a memorial in his name, the family respectfully requests it be made to the ‘Just A Horse Rescue and Sanctuary’, located in Melrose, Wisconsin. https://justahorsesanctuary.com/donate-contact-us/
