John Herbert Sayers

John Herbert Sayers, 70, of La Crescent, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at the Lake Winona Manor Nursing Home, Winona, MN. He was born on November 7, 1946 in Chester Hill, OH to Nyle W. and Jenny (Duncan) Sayers Sr. John was a 1964 graduate of M and M High School in McConnelsville, OH. He was a 20-year veteran of the US Army, serving in the Vietnam War, and retiring as a staff Sargent. He attended WWTC and received a degree in accounting. John had been a member of the Nazarene Church in La Crosse, and was currently a member of the Community Church of Hokah, Hokah, MN. He was a member of the Gittens-Leidel American Legion Post 595 in La Crescent, and enjoyed sports and fishing.

John is survived by a daughter, Heather Rae Sayers, a son Joshua John Sayers, his ex-wife Kathy Ann Sayers, three sisters, Jenny (Donald) Preacher, Gayla (Earl) Rexroad, and Jan Hamill, two brothers, Phil (Judy) Sayers and Raymond (Lisa) Sayers, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Daniel and Nyle Jr.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral & Cremation Services of La Crescent, 111 So. Oak Street. Pastor Dave Possing will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 PM and again on Saturday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. John loved his family and they loved him very much. He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. His family would like to thank the staff at Mosher Veteran's Home and Lake Winona Manor for their wonderful care.
