John Manfred Raatz

John Manfred Raatz, 74, of La Crosse passed away Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, peacefully at home in the presence of loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born January 6, 1943, in La Crosse, to Julius and Audrey (Olson) Raatz. He was married to the love of his life, Bonnie (Langhofer) Raatz Jan. 14, 1967, in La Crosse and has been reunited with her in eternal life.

John had attended Aquinas High School and after graduation he entered the National Guards. Upon returning to La Crosse he began the journey as a business man. Most notably being part owner of the original Varsity Club located on Ward Ave. He loved people, fixing things, and cars. He loved time with family and friends, golfing, playing cards and going to the casino with Bonnie.

He is survived by a son, John (Stacy) Raatz of La Crosse; and their children, Caitlyn and Trevor; a daughter, Amy (Rick) Kujawa of Holmen, WI.; and their children, Danielle (Scott) Herdeman; step-grandson, Aubin; Richard, and Aubryana; two sisters, Jeneane Jacobson, Julie Ann Schroeder, and a sister-in-law, Darlene (Joel) Urban. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Schumacher Kish Funeral Home, 200 West Ave S., La Crosse. Pastor John Stennes-Spidahl will officiate. Friends may attend the visitation from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home and again from 10 a.m. until the time of service beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
