John “Jack” Schlegel, 82, of Hokah, MN passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023 in his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 4, 1941 in La Crescent Township, MN to John and Eleanor (Roraff) Schlegel.
He was the ‘Jack’ of all trades. He could do most anything. He worked as an electrician for Walcker Electric and then Klich Electric up until his retirement. His biggest joys were his family, his hobby farm and deer hunting season. His deer hunting buddies were his extended family, processing the venison in the “Co-op” with the wood stove going. He liked to sit in his chair, look out the window and watch the deer and turkeys walk through his fields. He enjoyed gardening with his Mom for many years. When he saw her drive up the driveway he would say “Oh shit, here she comes” and then she would make him go and weed the garden. Jack was so proud of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed and things just won’t be the same.
He is survived by his loving wife Frances, his children Renee (Bill) McCabe, John (Lisa) Schlegel, Debbie (‘Fud’) Schlegel and Jimmy (Robin) Schlegel, grandchildren Sara (Mike) Laufenberg, Brandon (Kelli) Schlegel, Tim (Kasey) Payne and Brad Payne, great grandchildren Cullen, Madelyn, Charlie, Maisie, Emma, Wrenly and Frannie, sisters Rita Schlegel and Mary (Duane) Forer, step grandchildren Travis (Chelsea) Lechner, Justin (Katy) Lechner, Zach (Lierin) Lechner, step great grandchildren Peyton, Liahna, Kayden, Maverick, Carson and Easton. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Sharon Lepsch, brothers-in-law Peter Lepsch, Dick Carrier, Bill Flannery, Bill Ulmen, Don Tschumper, James Tschumper and Bob Tschumper.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Hokah, MN. Deacon Gerald Trocinski will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Peter’s Catholic School in Hokah.
