John “Jack” Mormann, 90, of La Crescent, passed away on Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at the La Crescent Health Care Center.
He was born June 24, 1926, to John and Bertha (Tschumper) Mormann, Sr., on his family’s farm in New Hartford Township in rural La Crescent. He married Marian Meyers on August 20, 1966, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in La Crosse. Marian preceded Jack in death on July 19, 2009.
Jack farmed his entire life on North Ridge in rural La Crescent. He was very proud of the fact that he raised and sold pure-bred Holstein cattle over the years and always held a deep concern about being a good steward of the land. Jack was also very fond of his cats that he kept on the farm.
Jack served as a sales representative for McNess Feed Company for many years and was a long-time, active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dakota.
Survivors include his in-laws, Herbert and Marie Meyers, Jr. of La Crosse, Rita and Roman Kotek of Bangor, Elrita Meyers of Bangor, Arlene Breuer of La Crosse, and Wilma Meyers of St. Joseph Ridge; and many nieces and nephews and their families. In addition to his wife, Marian, Jack was also preceded in death by his parents, John and Bertha; brothers-in-law, Clarence and Eugene Meyers, and Richard Breuer; and Marian’s parents, Herbert and Cecelia Meyers, Sr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 26 th , at the Church of the Crucifixion in La Crescent. Rev. Gregory Havel will officiate. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Dakota. Family and friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Monday at the church. Jack’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Golden Living Center in La Crescent for their wonderful care the past seven years while he was a resident and, prior to that, for the meals they provided him and the friendship given him when he would come to visit after Marian’s death.
