Jack Fried, 82, passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at the Benedictine Manor in La Crosse from natural causes. He was born on April 17, 1935 in La Crosse to George and Florence (Kubiak) Fried. He attended St. James School and graduated from Logan High School in 1954. On February 4, 1961 he married Shirley Winker at St. James Catholic Church. Jack learned the sheet metal trade from Palmer Hanson. He was employed at Trane Co. for 35 years. He was the first member of the Wise Owl Club at Trane for wearing safety shoes. Jack had served in the Navy Reserve for several years.
Jack enjoyed fishing, camping, going to the casinos and watching Logger Baseball, as a season ticket holder. He also enjoyed watching Badger sports. In retirement he enjoyed making football spinners and other lawn ornaments.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley, three children Debra Seiler of La Crosse, Michael (Rachel) Fried of Belleville, WI and Paula (Peter) Hogan of La Crescent, MN, four grandchildren, Will Fried, A.J. Seiler, Ariel Fried and Cody Hogan, a sister Mary Bendel, a sister-in-law Betty Fried along with several nieces and nephews. He is further survived by family pets Stormy, Elka, Sarah and South. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers James & Richard, a sister Audrey Allen, a sister-in-law Rita Fried and a brother-in-law Jerry Bendel.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Benedictine Manor and Gundersen Health System, especially Drs. David Momont and Rachel Keehner.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 9, 2018 at the Schumacher – Kish Funeral & Cremation Services, 200 West Ave. S., La Crosse. Rev. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to La Crescent Youth Hockey Assn., Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater La Crosse or nasa.Friday, February 9, 2018
