John G. Brandt, 77 of La Crosse was called peacefully to his Heavenly Home on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Bethany-Riverside Care Center. He was born December 30, 1940 on the family farm near Cream, Wisconsin to John A. and Bernice (Blasing) Brandt. John attended a one room school house from grades one through eight and graduated from Alma High School in Alma, Wisconsin. He later graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
On September 24, 1966 he married Karen Larsen in Cream, Wisconsin. John taught Industrial Arts and coached basketball in Hayward, Wisconsin, Mazeppa, Minnesota and Elk Mound, Wisconsin. In 1980 the family moved to La Crosse where John served as an insurance agent for Aid Association for Lutheran’s for 20 years until his retirement.
John was an active member of St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing horseshoes, cards, spending time in the kitchen, baking, spending time with his grandchildren and attending their sporting events. John was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Karen he is survived by four daughters; Kristi (Mark) Sands of Tucson, AZ, Kimberly (Dan) Schwabenbauer of Holmen, Kirsten Allphin and Jill Lynn both of Cody, WY; a son, Kyle (Ann) Brandt of La Crosse; ten grandchildren, Briana, Emily and Ty Schwanbenbauer, Kaden and Treyton Allphin, Kai, Tucker and Jessa Lynn, August and Alexis Brandt; three sisters, Lucille (Carl) Cramer of Janesville, WI, Dorothy (David) Raney of Butterfield, MN and Diane (Winslow) Grandstand of St. Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and an uncle, Norman Blasing.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. Friday, November 16 th at St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Onalaska with Rev. William Bader officiating. Private burial will take place on Saturday in the Zion Lutheran Church, rural Cream, Wisconsin. Visitation will be held from 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 907 Sand Lake Road, Onalaska. Visitation will continue on Friday at the church from 11:30 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul’s Ev. Lutheran Church School Scholarship Fund.
